The Day Panda Unit 07 Accidentally Started a Fashion Movement

TRANSMISSION DATE: September 28, 2026 ORIGIN: UNKNOWN SECTOR
The Day Panda Unit 07 Accidentally Started a Fashion Movement

REX RATTLE:
“Good evening, good morning, and welcome back to the program that continues to receive broadcasting permits for reasons nobody fully understands.”

Rex turns toward a screen filled with flashing images from a crowded alien market.

“Tonight, a routine courier stop on Neon Market 9 has apparently caused a district-wide fashion emergency.”

The screen cuts to Lula Comet.

She is standing beneath buzzing neon signs, surrounded by aliens, street vendors, hover scooters and several people wearing hastily assembled yellow jackets.

Behind her, somebody is spray-painting the number 07 onto a pair of enormous boots.

LULA COMET:
“Rex, first of all, this is not an emergency.”

She looks behind her.

A crowd begins chanting something about shoulder straps.

LULA:
“This is culture.”

REX:
“Traffic officials have closed three streets.”

LULA:
“Culture with consequences.”

It Started With One Courier

Neon Market 9 is one of those places where almost anything can be purchased.

Food.

Fuel.

Illegal navigation chips.

Legal navigation chips that look considerably more suspicious.

Vintage moon boots.

Fake vintage moon boots.

And, according to Lula, “at least six different kinds of jacket nobody needs but everybody should own.”

At approximately 16:22 local time, a courier designated Panda Unit 07 stepped off a transit shuttle wearing a battered yellow-and-black utility jacket, heavy route gear, oversized boots and enough technical hardware to make airport security simply give up.

Beside her walked a small panda-headed companion unit.

Nobody paid much attention at first.

Then someone asked where she bought the jacket.

She answered:

“Work gave it to me.”

That should have ended the conversation.

It did not.

Overcooked Galaxy culture reporter Lula Comet reports from Neon Market 9 as Panda Unit 07 arrives wearing yellow-and-black futuristic courier gear with her panda robot companion.

Then Somebody Called It “Pandacore”

Within fifteen minutes, photographs of Unit 07 were spreading across local feeds.

The look was immediately described as:

Courier industrial.

Then:

Post-route utility.

Then:

Neo-delivery brutalism.

Lula rejected all three.

LULA:
“It’s a yellow jacket.”

A nearby fashion blogger gasped.

BLOGGER:
“It is never just a yellow jacket.”

Lula paused.

LULA:
“I like you.”

By 17:00, vendors had begun pulling anything yellow from their stalls.

Utility belts appeared.

Oversized boots appeared.

Protective knee armor appeared.

Someone taped an old navigation module to a handbag and priced it at four hundred credits.

Lula found this particularly offensive.

LULA:
“That module hasn’t worked since Route 12 collapsed.”

The vendor immediately changed the sign to:

VINTAGE ROUTE 12 MODULE — 600 CREDITS

The Panda Was Making Things Worse

Unit 07’s companion was not helping.

The little panda robot had discovered that whenever it posed for pictures, people gave it snacks.

It therefore began posing constantly.

Standing on crates.

Leaning against street signs.

Wearing someone’s sunglasses.

At one point it climbed onto a display pedestal outside a boutique and remained there for twenty-two minutes.

The boutique assumed this was intentional.

They changed the window display.

Sales reportedly tripled.

REX, FROM STUDIO:
“So the panda is now a fashion model?”

LULA:
“The panda has representation.”

REX:
“Already?”

LULA:
“Better representation than I have.”

Lula Comet interviews alien shoppers and street vendors as people copy Panda Unit 07's yellow cyberpunk courier style throughout Neon Market 9.

Lula Investigates

Determined to uncover why Unit 07 had suddenly become the district’s most influential person without actually trying, Lula finally caught up with her outside a noodle stall.

LULA:
“Half the market is dressed like you.”

Unit 07 looked around.

Yellow jackets.

Heavy boots.

Utility packs.

One alien had somehow attached six knee pads to two knees.

UNIT 07:
“Why?”

Lula stared at her.

LULA:
“That is what I’m asking you.”

Unit 07 shrugged.

UNIT 07:
“These are work clothes.”

Her panda companion gave the camera an enthusiastic thumbs-up.

Lula slowly turned toward the broadcast crew.

LULA:
“And there it is.”

REX:
“What?”

LULA:
“The secret.”

REX:
“Which is?”

LULA:
“She genuinely does not care.”

A long pause.

LULA:
“That’s extremely fashionable.”

Then Fashion Week Arrived

Unfortunately, Neon Market 9 was hosting its annual Outer Systems Streetwear Expo that same evening.

Designers noticed the crowd.

Photographers noticed the designers noticing the crowd.

Influencers noticed the photographers.

And within an hour, Panda Unit 07 had accidentally become the unofficial centerpiece of an event she was not attending.

The expo director approached her with a contract.

She declined.

They offered more money.

She declined again.

They offered unlimited meal vouchers.

The panda accepted on her behalf.

UNIT 07:
“You cannot legally do that.”

The robot displayed:

🍜

Negotiations continued.

Lula Comet reports as Panda Unit 07 and her panda robot become the unexpected center of an eccentric alien streetwear event in the Overcooked Galaxy universe.

By Midnight, It Had a Name

The market officially started calling the trend:

PANDACORE

The unofficial rules were simple:

Yellow helps.

Utility pockets help more.

Boots should look capable of surviving orbital reentry.

Nothing should match too perfectly.

And at least one part of the outfit should make airport security visibly tired.

Unit 07 left Neon Market 9 several hours later.

She had completed her original delivery.

Her panda had acquired nine snack vouchers.

And approximately two thousand people were now dressed like interplanetary maintenance workers.

Lula called the evening a success.

Back to the Studio

REX:
“So what have we learned?”

Lula adjusts her star-shaped glasses.

LULA:
“That trends are meaningless.”

Rex nods thoughtfully.

LULA:
“Unless I like them.”

REX:
“Naturally.”

LULA:
“And apparently the most fashionable person in the galaxy is somebody trying to finish her shift.”

Rex looks into camera.

REX:
“Relatable.”

OFFICIAL STYLE REPORT

Trend: Pandacore
Origin: Accidental
Primary color: Extremely yellow
Required accessories: Questionable amount of hardware

Actual fashion qualifications of Unit 07: None

Neon Market 9 returned to normal the following morning.

Mostly.

The navigation-module handbag is now 750 credits.

Lula refuses to discuss it.

THE ARTIFACT BEHIND THE STORY

Today’s transmission was inspired by Panda Unit 07, an original Overcooked Galaxy design built around futuristic courier streetwear, yellow-and-black techwear styling, oversized utility gear and one extremely memorable panda companion.

The artwork captures the same idea at the center of today’s story:

Sometimes the person who looks the coolest is simply the person who has somewhere else to be.
